Git Crash-Course by Dr. Selina Baldauf// Nov 18, 19 & 25

Learning to use Git is an essential skill if you use any programming language. It allows you to keep track of changes to your project over time, collaborate with others, and maintain a clear and organized project structure.

The main goal of this crash-course is to give you the basic skills you need to start using Git for your own research projects both individually and in collaboration with your colleagues. You will learn a complete Git workflow including remote repositories on Github both in theory and practice.

 

Who is the course for? Doctoral researchers registered at the BCP department, Postdoctoral researchers at the BCP department

When?                             Monday, 18 November, to Tuesday, 19 November 2024, 2 – 4 pm; follow-up meeting on Monday, 25 November 2024 (2 -3pm)

Woche der guten wissenschaftlichen Praxis 2024 / Good Research Practice Week 2024 // Nov 25 - 28

Vom 25.-28. November beleuchtet die GWP-Woche unterschiedliche Aspekte der wissenschaftlichen Integrität, von künstlicher Intelligenz über gute Betreuung bis hin zu Plagiatsvermeidung und Publikationsprozess. Die Höhepunkte der Themenwoche bilden ein Festvortrag von Prof. Weber-Wulff (HTW Berlin) sowie eine Podiumsdiskussion zum Thema "Selbsternannte Hüter der wissenschaftlichen Integrität - Fluch oder Segen?". Die Angebote finden vorwiegend in deutscher Sprache statt und sind hochschulöffentlich. Wir freuen uns über Ihre rege Teilnahme. From November 25 to 28, 2024, the university will host a series of events that highlight different facets of research integrity from artificial intelligence to effective mentoring to plagiarism pitfalls and the publishing process. We are especially excited to announce this year's keynote speaker, Professor Weber-Wulff of HTW Berlin - University of Applied Sciences, who will give a talk on "Artificial Intelligence in Education and Research" on Wednesday, November 27. We also hope you will join us for the final panel discussion on Thursday, November 28, where experts will discuss the challenges involved in defending research integrity.

Please note that while the majority of events will be held in German, the program does include several workshops in English.The events are open to all members of the university. We look forward to seeing you there!

Journal Club Diversity and Responsible Research and Innovation  – DRIVERS // Dec 2

The Journal Club for Diversity and Responsible Research and Innovation (DRIVERS)* meets online on the first Monday of every month at 11:00 a.m. to critically discuss selected literature on diversity and RRI, paying particular attention to how these topics intersect, and to the role of research assessment and its reform. 

Jointly led by colleagues from NeuroCure, the Einstein Center for Neurosciences (ECN), the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH), and the BIH QUEST Center, DRIVERS brings multiple perspectives to the discussion.

We warmly invite you to join us and contribute your views! We strongly recommend that participants read the paper in advance. Those who regularly participate in the Journal Club can receive a certificate of participation. New Course Program offered by fu:stat // Dec 2024 & Mar 2025

The statistics advisory unit of Freie Universität Berlin (fu:stat) offers a broad portfolio of courses on basics in statistics but also software applications, e.g. R, SPSS and Phyton. The new training program also includes a course on generative artificial intelligence for the first time.

The participation fee will be covered by DRS (until the semester quota is exhausted) if you are doing your doctorate at a university of the Berlin University Alliance. When registering on the fu:stat website, please identify yourself as a doctoral researcher from an institution of the Berlin University Alliance (Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt Universität Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin).

If you cancel within one week before the start of the course, you will have to pay 30% of the course fee as a cancellation fee. This cancellation fee is not covered by DRS.
