Career Perspectives with a PhD in Natural & Life Sciences //  June 13, 5 – 6 pm

Looking for career options after your doctorate? And not sure what is “out there”? With the series "Career Perspectives with a PhD in Natural and Life Sciences", we would like to offer an opportunity for interactive and informal exchange about career-related topics. You will meet former PhD candidates who will share with you their experiences including ups and downs looking for a job. PhD holders from academia, industry, science communication, politics, public and health sectors, education and more will show you the broad range of potential careers after a doctorate and give you inspiration for future career choices. We will have plenty of time after each talk for questions, discussion and networking.

Dr. Sven Dethlefs, a global pharmaceutical executive, who is an alumnus of the institute of Biochemistry of FU Berlin, will be our guest. He worked at Teva Pharmaceuticals, Philadelphia, USA and recently joined a Boston based Biotech company, PureTech Health.

All information and the meeting link can be found timely before the meeting on this website.

Research Integrity at FU Berlin and the Department of Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy

Good scientific/research practice lays down rules for conduct in academia that relate to research ethics, leadership roles and collaboration, the handling of one's own and others' data, and much more.

Besides the Freie Universität’s new Statute for Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice / GWP-Satzung; (here the non-binding English translation), there are a number of services and contacts that you can turn to with your questions, doubts or if you suspect a misconduct:

The Coordination Office for Research Integrity has been established to oversee the implementation of the Statute for Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice and to act as a point of contact for all members of Freie Universität Berlin seeking advice on good research practice.

The Department of Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy offers help and advice through two recently elected ombudspersons:

Sophie Armitage, PhD and  Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Matthias F. Melzig

You can find more information here: https://www.bcp.fu-berlin.de/en/forschung/gute-wissenschaftliche-praxis/index.html

Dr. Alette Winter and Simone Schlender from the Coordination Office of the Graduate Center are also available as first points of contact for all questions and problems relating to your doctorate. You can find our contact details here: https://www.bcp.fu-berlin.de/en/graduiertenzentrum/kontakt/koord-ma/index.html

Gender, Diversity & Career Development day / July 1

The next ‘Gender, Diversity & Career Development day’ is coming up!

*Monday* 1.07.2024 | 9 AM – 4.30 PM

FU Berlin | SupraFAB | Altensteinstr. 23a | 14195 Berlin

You are warmly invited!

This time it's about career planning and career paths for natural scientists.

How much planning does a career in science require? Which aspects are most relevant: topic, publications, third-party funding, networking, choice of mentors, personal life goals? What strategies can help me plan my next career steps in- and outside of academia?

Experienced scientists will share their thoughts and in addition to coaching workshops, there will also be a workshop on how to find more confidence and ease in your body even in times of stress and uncertainty.

For further information please see the attached flyer!

Please register as soon as possible with mention of the chosen workshops (gender-diversityCRC1449@bcp.fu-berlin.de contact: Dr. Sarah Huch).
