Dear doctoral and postdoctoral researchers,

we hope you‘ve had a happy and productive winter break. We are pleased to tell you that our summer semester program is now online and ready for booking!

As usual we offer many tried-and-tested courses on classic topics like writing and publishing, presentation skills and teaching, motivating and organizing yourself as well as career orientation and development.

We would particularly like to recommend some special formats:

• Get it Done - Time Management that Really Suits You is for those of us who are unsatisfied with their use of time and are looking for an individual solution for that.
• Disputation Training prepares doctoral candidates for their disputation, honing their presentation skills so as to be able to argue points convincingly and think on their feet during the Q&A.
• In Applying for Research Grants Beate Scholz offers you insights into the German third-party funding world (For postdocs only!). The trainer brings her extensive experience with the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and her expertise on the review process of grant applications.

Open Science Fellows Program

The Open Science Fellows Program is a joint project of Wikimedia Deutschland, the Stifterverband, and the Volkswagen Foundation. It is aimed at doctoral students (m/f), post-docs (m/f), and junior professors (m/f) who want to promote their research in an open manner. As scientific partners, the Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB), the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, the Center for Digital Systems (CeDiS) of Freie Universität Berlin and the Göttingen State and University Library are participating in the program by offering a range of training opportunities.

Das Fellow-Programm Freies Wissen ist ein gemeinsames Projekt von Wikimedia Deutschland, dem Stifterverband und der VolkswagenStiftung und richtet sich an Doktoranden (m/w), Post-Docs (m/w) und Juniorprofessoren (m/w), die ihre Forschungsprozesse offen gestalten möchten. The Future of Our Climate

Dear graduate students, 

You are cordially invited to an event titled “The Future of Our Climate” on 9 May, featuring a talk by Prof. Johan Rockström, the new director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, discussing his agenda for managing the future of our climate. 

This inaugural “Fritz Session” will conclude with a catered reception, during which you can learn more about your carbon footprint, and have the opportunity to view a series of artworks on the climate crisis by the artist Agata Engelman.

Please note that while this event is *free* to attend, *registration is mandatory*. You can register at fritz-sessions.org.

Liebe Promovierenden, 

wir möchten Sie herzlich zu einem Kolloquium mit dem Titel “The Future of Our Climate” am 9. Mai um 18 Uhr im Harnack-Haus in Dahlem einladen. Bei dieser Veranstaltung wird Prof. Johan Rockström, der neue Direktor des Potsdam-Instituts für Klimafolgenforschung, einen (englischsprachigen) Vortrag zum wissenschaftlichen Hintergrund des Klimawandels und möglichen politischen Herangehensweisen an das Problem halten. Diese erste “Fritz Session” werden wir bei einem Empfang mit Snacks und Getränken ausklingen lassen. Während des Empfangs wird es auch die Möglichkeit geben, mit Expert*innen den eigenen CO2-Fußabdruck zu besprechen. Außerdem werden wir neue Gemälde von Agata Engelman ausstellen, die sich mit der Klimakrise aus einer anderen Perspektive auseinandersetzt. 

Die Veranstaltung ist kostenlos, aber die Voranmeldung auf fritz-sessions.org ist notwendig! Dort finden Sie auch alle weiteren Informationen. 

Die “Fritz Sessions” sind eine von Doktoranden organisierte Veranstaltungsreihe am Fritz-Haber-Institut der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, bei denen führende Wissenschaftler Vorträge zu Themen halten, die aus unserer Sicht von wachsender gesellschaftlicher Relevanz sind. Das Niveau dieser Vorträge soll dabei wissenschaftlichen Ansprüchen genügen, jedoch kein detailliertes Fachwissen voraussetzen.
