Chakrabarti Group – mRNA Metabolism
The main interest of the group is to understand the mechanisms of post-transcriptional gene regulation in the eukaryotic cell, with a focus on mRNA degradation. The degradation of mRNA is an important step in gene regulation as it serves to control not only the levels, but also the quality of the mRNAs being translated. Our work aims to understand the role of the degradation signals present within the mRNA and their associated protein factors in triggering mRNA decay, using a combination of biochemical and structural methods.
