Career Perspectives with a PhD in Natural & Life Sciences // 14 Mar, 5 – 6 pm
Looking for career options after your doctorate? And not sure what is “out there”? With the series "Career Perspectives with a PhD in Natural and Life Sciences", we would like to offer an opportunity for interactive and informal exchange about career-related topics. You will meet former PhD candidates who will share with you their experiences including ups and downs looking for a job. PhD holders from academia, industry, science communication, politics, public and health sectors, education and more will show you the broad range of potential careers after a doctorate and give you inspiration for future career choices. We will have plenty of time after each talk for questions, discussion and networking.
In March, Dr. Suvrat Chowdhary, who is an alumnus of the Institute of Chemistry at Freie Universitaet Berlin, will be our guest. He currently works as Project Manager at GreenCHEM as well as Transfer Manager at Profund Innovation.

The patenting of research results plays an important role for third-party funding by organizations such as the BMBF, EXIST and SPRIND. Ignite your entrepreneurial spirit! In our two-day innovation workshop, tailored to researchers of all disciplines, you will discover your entrepreneurial skills. Guided by professional innovation coaches, you will develop ideas for a potential business case in small groups. The workshop takes place on-site in Berlin between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm. Research to Market Challenge started
This year's university ideas competition "Research to Market Challenge" has started! We are looking for innovative ideas for products, processes, applications and/or business models related to research at Freie Universität Berlin or cooperating institutions (e.g. Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung, Zuse-Institut, Robert-Koch-Institut, etc.). We are looking forward to receiving submissions for the competition categories Sustainability & Society, Healthcare & Prevention and Technologies & Resources plus an extra category with a special prize "Future Innovation: AI" if the idea also relates to the topic of artificial intelligence. In addition to prize money totaling 12,000 Euros and awards for the best solutions, the participants will receive feedback from experts on the potential exploitation of their research results. Application deadline is April 5, 2024.
To prepare for the competition, potential participants are offered two events. At the Impulse Day on March 14th at EINS (Ernst-Reuter-Platz 1) you can be inspired by exciting lectures on the latest developments in the respective clusters. Afterwards, a Workshop Day will take place on March 19th also at EINS (Ernst-Reuter-Platz 1), So that the ideas can be deepened, structured and submitted.

Career Week for International Junior Researchers // 11 – 14 Mar
Technische Universität Berlin's “Career Week for International Junior Researchers” - a cooperation project by the Alumni Program and the Center for Junior Scholars - aims at giving international PhD students and postdocs insights into the diversity of academic and non-academic career prospects on the German job market as well as information about requirements for non-EU nationals to work in Germany.
The English-language information and networking event brings international junior researchers in contact with TU Berlin alumni working in the fields of academia, industry and business startups. Additionally, the "Career Week" offers a variety of career orientation sessions. It combines in-person and virtual components to give participants the greatest possible flexibility.
This year's "Career Week for International Junior Researchers" is taking place from 11 to 14 March 2024.

Workshop “Your Science, Your Data, Your Story – Your Poster” // 19 & 20 Mar, 9am – 5pm
This workshop will guide you from your raw data to a finalised poster telling your own story. Starting with the differences between a poster, a talk, and a paper, you will learn how a poster is structured, which stories science can tell (fairy tale, criminal writing, etc.), what the pros and cons of each story type are, which story type matches your data best. And how illustrations, colours, and arrangement help you to communicate your story. Afterwards you have the opportunity to incorporate the newly learnt skills in your own poster and to discuss them on a one-on-one basis.

Kursangebot MHFA (Mental Health First Aid) für Dozierende der FU Berlin // 4. & 5. April
Im MHFA (Mental Health First Aid) Erste-Hilfe Kurs für psychische Gesundheit lernen Dozierende der FU Berlin, rechtzeitig psychische Gesundheitsprobleme bei Menschen im Umfeld zu erkennen, zu verstehen und darauf zu reagieren. Sie eignen sich Grundwissen über verschiedene psychische Störungen an, mit dem sie Betroffene gezielt unterstützen und informieren können. Ein wichtiger Bestandteil der Kurse ist es zu lernen, wie Ersthelfer*innen Betroffene ermutigen können, professionelle Hilfe in Anspruch zu nehmen und weitere Ressourcen zu aktivieren. So können entstehende psychische Probleme frühzeitig erkannt, adäquate Unterstützung angeboten sowie viele Schwierigkeiten und hohe Folgeprobleme vermieden werden.

3R Curriculum: Animal Ethics and the 3R Principle in Biomedical Research // 8 (-12) April
Charité 3R offers its “3R Curriculum on Animal Ethics and the 3R Principle in Biomedical Research” in April as an on-site event at Charité (Campus Mitte and Campus Virchow-Klinikum).
This PhD course introduces along the 3Rs principle of “Replacement, Reduction and Refinement” the current developments in this field, using interactive seminars as well as hands-on sessions. Furthermore, we will discuss ethical aspects of different methods and animal welfare in biomedical research.

…the basic seminars only, April 8th 10 am – 5 pm (course part I, workload: 0.4 ECTS-CP)
OR …the whole course week, April 8th-12th (course week, workload: 2.5 ECTS-CP).

Get ready for Summer School Una Europa 2024!
The Summer School 2024 under the title "Sustainability in communication and education. Spreading the word and creating awareness" aims to involve doctoral students from different countries and with different scientific backgrounds in relation to the topics of sustainability communication and education.
Lectures, workshops and field trips will be offered by teachers from a broad range of Una Europa partner universities like the University of Bologna, FU Berlin, UCD Dublin, University of Helsinki, KU Leuven, Complutense University of Madrid.

The Early Career Host Program is aimed at doctoral students and (under-)graduate students (BA/MA) at FU Berlin who would like to gain first experiences as a host of a self-conceived, and self-organized workshop. Deadline for applications is 17 March 2024.
The funding can be used for events at FU Berlin with guests from Una Europa partner universities. The program can support travel, catering, and costs for inviting external speakers / experts.
