Transfer of academic achievements
Procedure:
1. in order to be able to recognize academic achievements, we require the following documents at the examinations office
- Transcript of records/performance overview or certificate stating that a module has been completed and passed, with the date of passing, the grade if applicable, as well as the credit points.
- A module description showing the qualification objectives and content, as well as teaching/learning forms (lecture, exercise, practical course, in the case of combined courses with details of credit points), compulsory attendance if applicable, form of active participation and form of examination.
- A tabular overview of which achievements are to be recognized by us for which achievements
All documents must be officially translated into German or English and submitted as originals and copies. Only if this information is complete can we check the recognition quickly.
2. We will forward your application to the relevant examination board for a decision and then inform you of the decision. This may take some time.

Research Project
According to § 7 SPO students must complete three graded internships, each worth 15 credits. Ungraded projects (5 or 10 credits) are by choice. Each research module must be registered four weeks in advance, regardless of whether it is to be completed internally or externally, graded or ungraded.
Before a research project can be started, approval must be obtained from the Examination Board.
Please submit the completed application form to the Examinations Office. If the research project is rejected or other questions arise, we will contact you by e-mail. Otherwise, we will register the research module for you in Campus Management.

Important: When registering for research projects, only persons authorized to conduct examinations are admitted as supervisors/examiners; these are usually professors (Prof.) or private lecturers (PD). Please bear this in mind when looking for a supervisor for your research projects, as otherwise the examination board may reject your research project application. Please note the information on the last page of the application form. The same applies to the Master's thesis.Please note the guidelines for active participation and possible examination for the research projects. The report must be signed by the supervisor and sent to the examination office by e-mail as a PDF file before the proof of performance, otherwise it cannot be accepted. The supervisor can also send all documents together. The proof of permance and the protocol of the examination must be submitted by the examiners and not by the students.
Registration Master’s thesis
In § 11 of the study and examination regulations for the Master's degree program in Biochemistry you will find information and requirements for the Master's thesis and the Master's presentation.
The Examination Board provides the following guidelines and recommendations for writing the Master's thesis.
The master's thesis must be registered by the student at the Examination Office at least two weeks before the start of the master's thesis and the start must be approved by the Examination Board.

The Master's thesis can also be carried out externally at institutes or research facilities. This application must be submitted in addition to the regular form:
Application for external conduction of the Master's thesis
You can submit the application for external conduction before or together with the regular application.
Please note that the approval to carry out the Master's thesis externally is not sufficient to start the thesis. You may only begin once the regular application has been approved.
Please submit the completed application to the Examinations Office four weeks before the start of the thesis. If your application has been approved by the Examination Board, you will be informed by the Examination Office by e-mail about the submission date and all additional submission formalities.

Please bear this in mind when looking for a supervisor for your Master's thesis, as otherwise the examination board may reject your Master's thesis application. The application can only be processed once all signatures have been obtained.If there are comprehensible and valid reasons during the processing period for the Master's thesis for which the student is not responsible and as a result it is not possible to complete the Master's thesis on time, an application for an extension can be submitted to the Examination Board. The application must be justified by the student and confirmed with the signature of the first supervisor. The application must be submitted to the Examination Office and the Examination Board will decide on the application.
Submission of the thesis:
The Master's thesis must be submitted by e-mail to pruefungsbuero@biochemie.fu-berlin.de as a PDF file by the deadline on the day you have been notified as the “latest deadline for submission” (by 11:59 p.m.) at the latest. The PDF file must contain the text in machine-readable form, not just graphically, and must not contain any rights restrictions. Please remember to include the handwritten signed affidavit.There is no need to submit a printed version.
The use of the FU logo on the thesis is not permitted!
The thesis will only be forwarded to your reviewers by the examination office!
As soon as the submission of the thesis has been booked in the system, you can see the status.
Master's presentation:
In accordance with § 11 SPO, the results of the Master's thesis are defended in an oral presentation. The Master's presentation lasts approximately 60 minutes and consists of a presentation of the results (approximately 30 minutes) and a subsequent discussion (30 minutes). The student arranges the date for the defense independently with the two reviewers and must inform the examination office 2 weeks in advance (by e-mail: pruefungsbuero@biochemie.fu-berlin.de)
The Master's presentation must be examined and assessed by 2 examiners. These examiners should be identical to the reviewers of the thesis. The reviewers will receive the protocol sheet for the oral presentation together with the Master's thesis.
Graduation
Please submit the application for graduation to the Examinations Office as soon as you have successfully completed your last examination/study achievement. This can be, for example, the date of the Master's thesis defense, a written exam date, the submission of a term paper/protocol/report, etc.. The date of the application for graduation becomes the certificate date. It usually takes two to four weeks to issue the documents.
Please note:
The application for graduation is not the same as the application for de-registration. If you have any questions regarding de-registration, please contact the FU Berlin Student Service Center directly.
The graduation documents must have the same name as it appears on your ID/passport, so please give your full name to the Student Administration Office.
If you wish to enter a first and/or last name that differs from your official name (e.g. trans*, inter* and non-binary* (TIN*) students), please submit the" „Antrag auf Eintragung eines vom amtlichen Namen abweichenden Vor- und/oder Nachnamen auf Abschlussdokumenten der Freien Universität Berlin."
