Locations

Where do lectures and lab courses take place? Where can you find something to eat? Where can chemistry students lay back and relax for a while? Here, we present you an overview of the most important places for cemistry students:

Fabeckstraße 34/36

The Inorganic Chemistry (frequently used abbreviation: AC, from German: "Anorganische Chemie") ist located at Fabeckstraße 34/36. You can't miss it due to its six-story tall building. By the way: that is the highest building in Dahlem, and from the upper floors, you'll have a great view over Berlin.

Here, you can find a lecture hall and a large seminar room, as well as the groups of Prof. Riedel (Halogen Chemistry, Fluorchemistry), Prof. Müller (Main Group Chemistry & Catalysis), and Prof. Huittinen (Radiochemistry).

Arnimallee 22

The Physical Chemistry (abbreviation: PC) is located at Arnimallee 22. This building was reopened in 2019 after extensive refurbishment and is therefore furnished and equipped quite modern.

Here, you can find the Main Lecture Hall, Lecture Halls A and B, and several seminar rooms, as well as the groups of Prof. Paulus (Quantum Chemistry), Prof. Keller (Molecular Dynamics)Prof. Risse (Chemical Processes at Surfaces), Prof. Papp (Applied Physical Chemistry), Prof. Block (Biophysical Chemistry), and Prof. Heinke (Spectroscopy). In addition, the department's administration, including the Office of Academic Affairs and the Examination Office for Chemistry, are located here. There are seating areas in the lobby that invite you to study together, for example.

Takustraße 3

The Organic Chemistry (abbreviation: OC) is located at Takustraße 3. Large parts of that building are currently under renovation, and are supposed to reopen soon with a grand new look. Only one wing is currently open, that mostly houses seminar rooms, as well as the Student Council's Office.

The Organic Chemistry groups are spread out over the campus: some reside at Takustraße 3, some in an interim building at Arnimallee 20, and some at the modern research center SupraFAB at Altensteinstraße 23a. The groups include Prof. Haag (Macromolecular Chemistry), Prof. Christmann (Natural Product Synthesis), Prof. Koksch (Bioorganic Chemistry), Prof. Pagel (Ion Mobility-Mass Spectrometry), Prof. Eigler (Carbon Nanomaterials), Prof. Schalley (Supramolecular Chemistry), and Prof. Tzschucke (Transition Metal Chemistry).

The OC Café was once – as the name suggests – located in the Organic Chemistry building, but with start of renovations, it moved to Fabeckstraße 36a.

Here, you can get delicious and affordable coffee, sandwiches, and other drinks and snacks for in between. In addition, you can relax here, and chat with your fellow students. And in case any questions come up regarding your studies, you can almost always find someone, to help you out.

The SupraFAB is a state-of-the-art interdisciplinary reserach center, opened in 2022, and located at Altenteinstraße 23a. It houses several Organic Chemistry groups, working jointly with scientists from the fields of Biochemistry, Biology, and Physics.

The Crystallography is the building at Takustraße 6. Parts of the Biochemistry and Biology are located here, as well as a lecture hall.

The canteen Mensa II is located in the FU's main building (the so-called rust, silver, and wood arbour) and is therefore within walking distance of our institute's buildings. They offer a selection of delicious dishes every day, many of which are vegetarian or vegan. You can find the daily menu here.

The Campus Library (frequently used abbreviation: Campus-Bib, from German: "Bibliothek") is the predominantly relevant library for us, housing an extensive collection of scientific textbooks. It offers a large number of workspaces and several group study rooms. The Campus Library is also located in the main building.
