My PhD Project is embedded in a DFG-funded cooperation between our reserach group and the German Sports University Cologne (DSHS) on the topic of "Ecdysteroids in postmenopausal women". Ecdysteroids are polar polyhydroxylated steroids naturally occurring in insects and crustaceans as well as plants commonly used in human diet. The project aims to evaluate the possible application of Ecdysterone in combination with training as a preventive strategy to reduce menopausal risk for sarcopenia, insulin resistance and diabetes. To gain further insight in the pharmakokinetics of Ecdysterone, I am developing LC-MS/MS-based bioanalytical methods to quantify Ecdysterone and its metabolites in our single- and multiple-dose-application studies. Additionally, I am looking into how the main metabolites are being formed, currently focussing on Microbiome dependant Metabolism (MDM).
