My research primarily focuses on drug metabolism mediated by UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (UGTs), which are membrane-bound enzymes that catalyze a reaction called glucuronidation. As a model, I use permeabilized fission yeast cells, so-called enzyme bags expressing human UGTs. I have developed a fluorescence-based microplate assay to measure UGT activity, optimized the assay conditions and automated the process using a liquid handling station (pipetting robot). Additionally, I perform inhibition assays with HPLC-MS detection for various UGT substrates.
