Gender and Diversity conscious language
Language is the medium for communication. It lives and develops by using it and influences our reality and perception. Language is not neutral: we transmit – involuntary, frequently implicit in structures and words – norms, values, ideas and conceptions. Language equality isn’t only established by a juristic basis – the general equal treatment law, the common order of the administration of Berlin, the female promotion guideline of the Free University, just to mention some examples – but bases on the idea of respectful and high esteemed relations between each other.
There doesn’t exist one way of express oneself gender and diversity consciously.
On principle it is helpful to remind to…not to ex
- clude anybody and make everybody visible
- address oneself to everybody
- not use stereotyped representations and discriminative expressions
