Isolation and Optimization of Microbes that Convert Lignin to Platform Chemicals

Lignin degrading microorganisms from promising habitats have been isolated and propagated.

Isolates with a high lignin degrading potential have been characterized and will be analyzed with respect to their production of valuable fermentation products.

We focus on biocatalytically produced platform chemicals that can be used in the chemical, construction material, energy and pharmaceutical industries.

The identified microorganisms will be optimized for high lignin tolerance and lignin degradation potential.

The generated microbial isolates and production processes are expected to replace petrochemical synthesis with biocatalytical utilization of renewable carbon sources.
